2nd - 3rd June at Bromley Tennis Centre
All players performed to the best of their ability and Kent’s final position was a fair reflection of the players’ standard at this moment in time.
Team:
1. Oscar brown
2. Luca Pavan
3. Rory Grant
4. Adam Walker
5. Henry Bowden
Day 1
Kent vs Sussex
Oscar’s precision play and matchplay head helped him to win enough of the key battles in the match to ensure a win.
Rory battled hard, was tough to beat making life tough for his opponent and if it was a best of 5 set match I am confident he would have prevailed.
Luca also caused trouble for his opponent and greater consistency from the back to outlast his opponent would have allowed him to get over the finish line first.
Kent vs Berkshire
Berkshire was by far the weakest team of the 6 and the Kent boys were too consistent and competitive to offer Berkshire any ray of hope.
Luca and Oscar paired up to tie the match with a dominating display in the doubles. They then played the tie-break shoot-out against a different Sussex pair and once again the Kent boys triumphed by consistent serving and clever movement at the net.
Day 2
Semi-Final
Kent vs Hampshire & Isle of Wight
Oscar’s matchplay instincts were on show once again and if they could have been supported by more resilient technique he would have scared the living daylights out of one of the best players in the country.
Henry Bowden played at number 3 and rose to the occasion with a consistent and smart performance to win his match.
Oscar and a pumped-up Henry Bowden fought hard to take the match to a tie-break shoot-out against two of the best players in the country and with faster hands at the net could well have triumphed.
3rd & 4th place play-off - Kent vs Sussex
After a long two days Kent lost to Sussex 2-6 and came 4th out of the 6 counties.
I would like to thank the boys for their efforts over the weekend and the parents who were supportive throughout.
