Ipswich Sports Club is based at Henley Road in Ipswich. It is a multi-sport facility that offers tennis, squash, Hockey, Table Tennis, Crèche, Gym, Studio, combined with a bar and changing facilities.

Tennis Facilities include 3 indoor Acrylic courts, 3 outdoor Astroturf courts and 5 macadam courts – all floodlit.

Christchurch Park is situated 5 minutes’ walk away from Ipswich Sports Club and has recently undergone a full renovation which now boasts 5 brand new macadam courts that are available for public usage for free and the Ark building as a club house and storage facility.

Vision

The role of Head of Development is the final key role in the re-development of the tennis programmes at Ipswich Sports Club.

The Club has recently appointed a Head of Tennis (Chris Daynes) to oversee all the programmes and to build on the success of the Performance Academy that is run at the Club. The Head of Tennis Development would be pivotal in creating a renewed vibrant development programme for juniors and adults at both Ipswich sports Club and the Christchurch park facility to attract more young people to tennis and keep them playing the sport.

Team Context

The role would require a high level of communication and team work to be able to blend into the sizeable coaching team at Club. Working under the Head Of Tennis (Chris Danes) the coach would need to be able to liase with the, performance team, parks team to ensure the correct flow of players through the player pathway, as well as lead other members of the development team. The coach would also need to work with the Club committee to help drive social and playing activity for members at the club.

Job Purpose

To deliver in conjunction with the Head of Tennis, Tennis Committee a vibrant adult and junior coaching and social programme at Ipswich Sports Club combined with the growth and implementation of the Parks Programme as per the targets set out in the LTA Tennis Payback.

To encourage and motivate people to get involved in the sport regardless of ability & to get more people playing tennis.

Dimensions

Contract Value:                Programmes run by the coach will be his/her own business, court fees payable to the club based on the Club court fee policy

Contract Status:               Self-employed (Post holder to supply unique tax ref number)

Hours of Work:                 Due to the nature of the post and type of work will be variable

Location:                         Ipswich Sports Club, Christchurch Park and local Schools/Sports Centres

Reports to:                      Head of Tennis, Tennis Chairman, Club Management

Duties and Responsibilities at ISC/Christchurch Park

  • To assist in the delivery with a comprehensive schools programme that feeds into the park and Club programme
  • To offer a wide ranging mini tennis programme for ages 4-9.
  • To offer a full junior coaching programme for players aged 10-18
  • To identify and offer adult coaching at all key times that they are required
  • To offer a full tournament programme from mini tennis up to grade 4 standard
  • To offer club sessions for junior and adult players
  • To engage the junior and adult membership through regular on-going contact to assist the Head of Tennis in developing an active club environment
  • To assist the Head of Tennis & Parks Coach in converting the new Parks programme players into members of Ipswich Sports Club as the link between the 2 programmes
  • To increase membership numbers by enhancing the existing tennis programme on offer and recruiting new members through external promotion and networking
  • To liase with the Club Coaches in regards to the flow of players through from Christchurch Park to the Club
  • To keep full and detailed records of players within the programmes
  • To ensure all players involved in the programmes sign up for British Tennis Membership
  • To effectively Talent ID young players & fast track mini tennis groups, & support those players
  • To offer internal competition within groups to significantly increase the number of RCJ’s (Regular Competing Juniors)
  • To develop from an early age a healthy competitive philosophy
  • To arrange & organise regular social competitive opportunities for adults
  • To work in partnership with Tennis Committee and assist them in the achieving of their goals and ambitions as laid down in the 5 year plan
  • Work with the current Parks coach & Ipswich Borough Council to assist in achieving their goals for Christchurch Park Tennis
  • To ensure and promote equality of opportunity, respecting diversity and recognising the needs of different groups and individuals
  • To create and develop strong working relationships with all of our funding partners
  • To support the Tennis Captain, Head of Tennis and Club committee with the fielding of junior and senior teams in local leagues and events
  • To assist the committee in attaining and maintaining ‘Club Mark’ status
  • To create a disability/wheelchair tennis programme
  • To create a welcoming environment for any potential new players regardless of ability

General Requirements

  • To act as an Ambassador for Ipswich Sports Club/Christchurch Park at all times
  • To ensure that your own work and behaviour is in accordance with professional standards and agreed processes so that compliance and control requirements are fully met
  • To maintain all necessary insurances as required
  • To attend meetings as required with the investing partners and management team

Person Specification

 Qualifications

  • Level 2 or higher, with the ability and desire to obtain the coach award and higher
  • LTA Licensed or Registered
  • Attend Coach Training days as required by your professional needs and the direction of the Head of Tennis

 Personal Skills

  • Self-motivated and able to motivate others
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Ability to use and maximise social networking tools, ie Twitter, Facebook
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Good organiser and manager of time
  • Commitment to partnership working and equity
  • Ability to use IT to communicate with others

Circumstances
