This year’s tournament will surely be remembered as one of the coldest on record, and participants, supporters and officials are to be congratulated on coping so well with the weather conditions. The varying holiday dates across the counties this year caused a few problems for SW players but entry levels were good with some players travelling from as far afield as East Scotland, Cumbria, Leicestershire and Essex to take part.
In spite of the extreme conditions, there was some excellent play to be seen and some very competitive hard-fought matches. Entry levels were especially high in the mini events and again spectators were able to watch some excellent match play.
Our thanks go to our referee Chris Matthews and our assistant referee Maggie Tyrrell, our court officials and the rest of the tournament team who worked very hard during the week to assist the smooth running of the event.
