Apply early to deliver in 2014 – over £100,000 available to get young people and adults active through Sportivate

Living Sport, the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough sports partnership, has over £100,000 available in funding support for organisations to offer a series of beginner sessions for semi sporty young people and adults who are inspired to try a new sport.

Sportivate is a Sport England legacy programme, managed in this county by Living Sport, which provides sports clubs and organisations the opportunity for funding to deliver a series of 6 beginner/taster sessions for those aged between 11-25 years old. This funding could cover coaching costs, facility hire, equipment (although limited to 20% of the total funding requested) etc.

Sportivate helps with the start-up costs associated with running beginner sessions and allows delivery organisations to run these sessions at a low risk and a reduced charge for participants; changing the habit and improving the health of those young people and adults who have yet to find their sport.

Ryan Cullum, Living Sport’s lead officer on Sportivate said, ‘We are encouraging sports clubs and organisations to start thinking about their plans for 2014 and what they can offer semi sporty individuals. In the past three years over £250,000 has been distributed within the county and resulted in over 3,000 more young people playing sport, so we cannot emphasise enough the wonderful opportunity available to access a portion of the £100,000 available. Please start applying now!’

Since April 2011, over 55 different sports clubs have been supported by Sportivate. One great example of how effective the funding can be for a sports club is Cambridge 99 Rowing Club who successfully utilised it to increase their junior membership from 8 to 54 members over a 12 month period. National Governing Bodies of sport (NGBs), Leisure Centres and Further Education institutions are also some of those who have benefitted from Sportivate funding.

To access Sportivate funding, organisations need to apply for this by completing an application form and submitting this between now and Friday 17th January 2014, for delivery to commence from April 2014 onwards.
