Up first Was Hertfordshire who wound up being the eventual winners of the weekend. Jeremy Shao Playing at No.3 Put up a valiant fight in his 2nd set how ever the format of sudden death Deuce meant he missed out on a few game points. Ganesh Mullaparthi was locked in a tight 3 setter against a tough opponent (Freddie Simpson), Having got off to flyer in the 1st set, was ground down in the end by Freddie’s consistency and movement.
The doubles was an entertaining match even though it was a dead rubber, a lot closer than the score line reflected.
Up next was Bedfordshire, and the whole team put in a very professional performance to beat their weakest opposition 4-0. Most Noticeably from Zander Brock who came in feeling under the weather but competed very heartily.
On the Sunday in the Semi-Finals we had Suffolk. Again Jeremy put in a great performance, playing at No.3 had a very tight match that I felt like it could have gone either way. Then our No.2 Raphael Tan put in an amazing fightback after losing a heartbreaking 1st set tie-break was able gather himself, romp through the 2nd set before taking the match tie-break (10-7) A very Impressive performance to level it at 1 match a piece. Ganesh again came up against a tenacious character in Suffolk’s No 1 and wasn't quite able to get himself going. Zander and Raphael went into the doubles confident of sending the tie into a shootout however it wasn't to be.
In the 3rd & 4th place play off we were up against Norfolk, It did feel like the Cambs team were a bit deflated after their loss in the semi-final and running low on energy and motivation. The exception to this was a stand out performance from Jeremy Shao, who was extremely positive to get his first singles win of the weekend.
A lot of positive learning experiences to be taken from a competitive weekend of tennis.
