Aegon Team Tennis Blog – Bromley Tennis Centre v Wye 12U Boys Division 1B Match.

Our first blog of the 2013 Aegon Team Tennis Kent League comes from Wye LTCs 12U Boys captain, with the photo taken by Bromley TCs 12U captain.

This was a close tie between two evenly matched teams, the first round of matches consisted of Bromley TC players 1 & 2 singles playing against Wyes 1&2 , with the 3&4 players teaming up to play doubles.

The number 1 singles rubber was contested between James Elliot (BTC) and Oliver Hanley (Wye). A closely fought  first set was finally won by Oliver 6-4, who then followed on to win the second set 6-1. The second singles rubber saw Kristofer Johnson (BTC) play Harry Temple (Wye) which again produced some great tennis. Kristofer won the first set 6-0 and the second set was a closer affair, Kristofer finally winning that set 6-4 and the match.

Meanwhile the 3&4 pairings of Brett Morton and Bunmi Davies (BTC) and Cameron McLaughlin and Daniel Dunlop (Wye) had a tough match with Cameron and Daniel finally emerging victorious in the third set championship tie break, 12-10.

After the first round of matches Wye were 2-1 up, the boys then played the second round of matches which consisted of players 3&4 playing singles and players 1&2 teaming up to play doubles.

Cameron (Wye) beat Brett (BTC) 6-2 6-0 while Bunmi (BTC) emerged victorious over Daniel (Wye) after a very closely fought match, 6-3,7-6.

The match score was now 3-2 to Wye and the final doubles match of James and Kristofer (BTC) against Oliver and Harry (Wye) was also a very close match.

As the first doubles match did, this match also went to a championship tie break, with the Wye team racing to a 6-1 lead before the steady Bromley pairs’ patient game got them back into the match. BTC finally won the tiebreak 10-8 with the match score 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.

That left the match tied at 3-3, after nearly four hours of tennis, all the boys then enjoyed a very nice match tea and hospitality provided by Bromley Tennis Centre. Overall both teams played some great tennis and had a fun day out!

I would like to congratulate all 8 boys who participated in this match on their team spirit, good natured behaviour and respect shown to their opponents. The value of Team Tennis cannot be rated highly enough!
