Record number of teams prepare for Aegon Team Tennis 2013

The Aegon Team Tennis 2013 season kick starts this weekend with opening matches taking place in the National/Regional Open tier.

Aegon Team Tennis 2013 features a record of 5,625 teams with events ranging from 8&U to Open (adult) age groups. Over 5,000 of these teams will be competing in the County tier of the competition with matches played against local rivals in a competitive league. Each team will be aiming to win their league and get their hands on the division winning pennant at the end of season.

All draws, fixtures and results can be seen onlinee throughout the 12 week season which concludes the weekend before Wimbledon in June.

This weekend sees the opening of the National/Regional Open tier which features only the top 150 Men’s and Women’s teams. £101,000 of prize money is being competed for by some of the top players in the country. Each team in the Regional tier can earn promotion to the National tier by winning their division. Those teams in the National tier will be hoping to earn a spot for the National Open Finals held from 12-14 July at The West Hants Club, Bournemouth.

From 13 April, teams from numerous other age groups take to the courts. Over 250 teams will be competing in the Premier 12&U-18&U competition where teams will play regionally in grade 3 competition. Players can accumulate ranking points and those teams in the top tier have the opportunity to earn a place to the Premier 12&U – 18&U Finals held at The National Tennis Centre, Roehampton on 20/21 July 2013.

Team Captains play a vital role in the success of a team’s season. Tools have been developed to help support team captains before, during and after their Team Tennis matches. This includes an improved Captain’s guide which includes the competition rules for each event, a new team kit offer to get your team looking the part in their matches, and a new online poster for captains to print out and put on their club noticeboard to promote their matches. These resources and more and can be viewed in the Aegon Team Tennis Captain’s Area

All teams competing in the competition are once again encouraged to send in their photos – both on and off court – from their Team Tennis 2013 season. Photos, along with consent form for junior players should be sent to teamtennis@LTA.org.uk and the competition team will make sure the best photos find their way on to the site.

Matt Byford, Circuit Director for Aegon Team Tennis commented: "We are very excited about the 2013 season and hope all players, team captains, coaches, parents and supporters enjoy a competitive team tennis season. The format of singles and doubles rubbers while representing a team is a unique competition experience for the vast majority and I wish everyone involved all the best over the next 3 months."
