Kent LTA and Helene Jackson arranged a girls 8 & under camp at the Sennocke Centre, Sevenoaks in February where twenty girls from around the county came together to train in a fun and active session.
The session run by the Talent and Performance Coordinator Simon Dahdi covered many areas of the game including movement, coordination exercises and tennis drills involving a variety of shots such as the drive volley and drop volley. The girls were put into situations encouraging them to work together in teams and also play as individuals. They all trained hard and showed a lot of skills in many different areas. After the session, Helene Jackson from West Heath Tennis Centre kindly provided the girls with cakes and drinks, which they all enjoyed.
The idea was to encourage more girls to play tennis and develop their interest in competing. It was great to see thirty three girls competing at the 8 & under Girls Winter County Closed recently which is an increase of twenty players from last summer’s County Closed in August 2012.
We hope to see more girls playing in these events in the future!
