Entries for Britain's largest Tennis Tournament the Powder Bryne Trophy are now open

Entries for Britain’s largest Tennis Tournament, the Powder Byrne Junior and Open Tennis Trophy are now being accepted.

It is expected that over 1,000 competitors, young and old, will take up the challenge and with events for every age and every standard, the National tournament offers something for everybody.

A strong level of entry is expected again in 2011, but with higher rated players being seeded through to the later stages, this allows less experienced players to compete against players of a similar standard in the earlier rounds.

The unique postal format also means that early matches tend to be played locally and any club, school, public or park tennis courts can be used.

Running from 16th July 2011 to 18th December 2011, the Powder Byrne Tennis Trophy is a Grade 3 LTA approved tournament and will feature Junior Boys and Girls Singles events for: 8&U (Red Ball), 9&U (Orange Ball), 12&U, 14&U, 16&U, and 18&U. Men’s and Ladies Open Singles, Mixed Open Doubles events are also included, as well as the opportunity to play as a Father and Son, Father and Daughter, Mother and Son or Mother and Daughter combination, in one of the Family Doubles events.

8&U (Red Ball) and 9&U (Orange Ball) events are to be staged as one day tournaments in the areas of: Cardiff, Bristol, Southampton, High Wycombe, Weybridge, Sutton, Bromley, Chigwell, Hatfield, Birmingham, Sheffield, Nottingham, Manchester, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Glasgow, between 1st September and 31st October 2011, with a National final for the winners of each tournament.

Oliver Golding from Twickenham, Middlesex, currently ranked the fourth best junior  in the world, is among the early entrants in the 2011 Powder Byrne Tennis Trophy.

Indeed, the 2010 Junior Wimbledon semi-finalist, has a successful record at this event having won the Powder Byrne Boys 12U Singles title in 2004.

Entries for the Powder Byrne Junior and Open Tennis Trophy 2011 close on 7th July 2011 at 2:00pm, except for the 8&U (Red Ball) and 9&U (Orange Ball) one day events, where entries will close 14 days prior to each event.

All National finals will be held on 17th and 18th December 2011 at a top London venue.
