Cambridge Easter Tournament – Grade 3

Thursday, April 19, 2012

The Cambridge LTC Easter Tournament attracted 187 players from all around the Country with the biggest entry in the 9 and under age groups with 31 boys and 21 girls competing in this event.

The local stars were Ben Clark who won the 16 and under boys event beating Jack Long-Martinez from Norfolk on the final 3/6, 6/0, 6/1. After a slow start Ben then took control of the match and eventually over powered his opponent. Ben also reached the final of the 18 and under singles event after defeating the top seed Chris Cole from Gloucestershire in a very good semi-final 6/3, 3/6 and 6/1. This was an excellent win as Cole was rated higher than Ben. Ben was unable to repeat this feat in the final and lost out to the more powerful Rohan Able from Suffolk 3/6, 4/6.

In the girls 16 and under event Natalie Bacon reached the final with some solid hard hitting groundstrokes before losing to Elif Gabb of Staffordshire 0/6, 4/6.

Dom Lea in the 14 and under boys event had a good tournament and narrowly lost in an extremely exciting and well contested final to Nicholas Brookes of Kent 5/7, 2/6.

In the younger age groups Charlie Taylor reached the semi- finals of the boys 12 and under event.

In the boys 10 and under event James Murphy played very well and competed superbly to take the 10 and under title. He beat Isaac Rowles of Peterborough 4/2, 4/1 in the final.

In the younger age groups Chaaya Malik reached the 9 and under semi-finals and in the boys 9 and under event which was extremely high standard emerging players Zac Cox and Yujiro Onuma reached the quarter finals – both players to look out for in the future.

Seb Warr reached the final of the boys 8 and under event.

Despite the weather forecast all the matches got played and the event was another great success for the County and CLTC.
