With only the U14’s and the U12 events to play, Cambs went in to the day a couple of points ahead of Notts, and by the end Cambs increased their lead over Notts.
The boys team consisted of Toby Huffer, Charlie James, Vincent Chan and Jan Ortonowski while there were only three girls - Lizzie Pam, Anna Loughlan and Melissa Carney.
Both teams fought well throughout the day and it was a very close encounter for both the boys and girls.
The boys played Suffolk first and Charlie James and Jan Ortonowski both won with Jan coming from a set down to win a very important match tiebreak to square the match at 2-2.
Next up was Notts and it turned out to be much easier with a 4-0 win with every player not losing more than two games in a set.
Hereford & Worcester were last and Cambs got of to a slow start with both Huffer and James losing in straight sets before Jan Ortonowski won 4-0 4-0. With Vincent in a match tiebreak, finishing 2nd or 3rd was down to this tiebreak. Vincent came from a set down to win a thrilling tiebreak 10-8 and that meant that Cambs finished runners up to Suffolk .
As for the girls, with Suffolk not managing to get a team out, it meant a long wait for them to start.
They played Notts first and Lizzie Pam and Anna Loughlan both won, Lizzie winning a close match 4-2 5-3.
Melissa Carney lost at number 3 and unfortunately Cambs couldn’t get a 4th player so it meant a 2-2 tie.
Their final match was against H&W and Lizzie Pam and Anna Loughlan both won convincingly, only dropping 1 game in the process. Melissa Carney failed to get the win which meant another 2-2 tie.
However it was enough for the girls to finish in 2nd place and more importantly they finished above Notts who finished 3rd.
With the U12’s to play, the Cambridgeshire team have put themselves in a great position to get promoted to division 1 next year.
