The Big Weekend 2013 – Event Details

What is it?

  • Our annual flagship community event
  • Three days of FREE entertainment
  • Live music, street theatre, sports area, fireworks, children’s activities, dance workshops, art & craft stalls, licensed bar, market stalls, storytelling, fairground, community activities...  

When?    Fri 5th – Sun 7th July 2012

  • 30,000 people
  • All people of the community and especially families, young people, couples, community groups, black & ethnic minorities
  • Right across Cambridgeshire

The Sport Zone Sponsored by Grosvenor

 The Sports Zone, in association with Grosvenor ,will feature a wide range of sporting activity for the public to get involved with.   There will also be a Street Football 3 v 3 Regional Heat, Mini World Cup men’s event, and football match re-enactment.

The Sport Zone will be located on the quadrant in front of the Hobbs Pavilion on Parker’s Piece.

The Sport Zone will be open on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July 2013 from 12noon to 5pm.

Area size needs to be requested by organisations wishing to participate in the Sport Zone by completing the confirmation form. This space size can range from small stall spaces, 5mt x 5mt, stall and display/taster activities area, 10mt x 10mt, to larger areas for taster/ demonstrations/ or workshops (Size to be stated).

Exact details need to be given of the activities that will be carried out by organisations on each day.

Gazebos may be erected by organisations over the weekend but Cambridge City Council will not supply these. All structures need to be erected securely and are done so at the owners risk. Any larger structures need to be requested on the confirmation form with exact measurements.

Cambridge City Council can supply tables and chairs but these must be requested in advance through the confirmation form

There are no electricity points. Generators are permitted on site.

Demonstration Area

The Sport Zone will have 1 demonstration area in the middle of the Sport Zone. This area will be 20mt x 20mt and will be a roped off to stop public access through it. This area will be timetabled and presented through a PA system and will be a chance for all clubs and organisations in the Sport Zone to showcase their activities.

Time slots of 30minutes must be requested in advance on the confirmation form with exact details of demonstration activities.

The final timetable for the demonstration area on each day will be published in the run up to the event and on the day through the Cambridge City Council’s website, publicity posters and leaflets.
