Sunday sees the climax of the Club Summer season, when the Inter-Club Doubles tournament is staged at Felixstowe.
12 Clubs will be competing in each of the Men’s and Ladies’ events, with West Suffolk club Newmarket out to add to the superb total of 14 Men’s and 20 Ladies’ titles they have amassed over the years.
Wortham make a welcome first appearance, with Ipswich club St.John’s showing their enthusiasm by entering two pairs in the Men’s competition. Newmarket defend the Ladies’ title, with host club Felixstowe and David Lloyd having to divide last September.
Talking of West Suffolk clubs, Exning Tennis Club celebrated their 60th Birthday last Sunday, a very special occasion which also saw the Paralympic Flame paraded to an enthusiastic crowd of over 100.
Exning has done a great job for disability tennis in recent years, and now has 8 wheelchair members, who mixed very happily on court with club members on Sunday. Certainly confidence is very high for the performance of our wheelchair players in the Paralympics.
