Olympic success leads to a live news report at Ipswich Sports Club

Monday, August 13, 2012

With a number of Olympians training or starting their careers at Ipswich Sports Club, we were delighted to be chosen for a live report on the early evening news.  The report followed Elena Baltacha’s recent progress at the Olympics and the great work being done with the Club Park link between Ipswich Sports Club and Christchurch Park.  Club member Paul Sheldrake (2012 Torchbearer) was involved in starting the programme from scratch and raising funding to make tennis FREE to all for parts of the programme in the park.  Paul’s ambition is to grow the game of tennis in large numbers and make tennis more affordable and allow anyone to be able to play the game of tennis.  The Club has produced a board in the Club bar to plot the progress of Harry Martin (Hockey), George Pinner (Hockey), Louise Jukes (Handball) and Elena Baltacha (Tennis) as well as display photos of the Olympics as taken by our Club members.
