After a stuttering start to the week, the 119th Framlingham Open Tournament was safely concluded in a blaze of sunshine last Saturday, Matt Hough taking full advantage of the absence of his Suffolk County Captain and defending champion Jeremy Cowley to capture both the Closed and Open Singles and Doubles titles, defeating East of England champion Myles Orton twice in straight sets.
This superb achievement was matched by Norfolk’s Sam Noble on the Ladies’ side, Miss Noble unbeaten and capturing all three Open titles, defeating county colleague and doubles partner Maria Andrews 6-3 6-4 in the Ladies’ Singles decider. The Grade 3 18Under Singles titles both saw home victories, for Kitty McWhirter and Ryan Lambert respectively.
By winning the Suffolk Ladies’ title for the ninth time, Katie Tassell overtook the record of Joan Hassell, and with doubles partner Louise Rogers, Emma Elsom and Janie Taylor, Miss Tassell was a member of the Suffolk Ladies 35.Over side that beat Northumberland, Cumbria, Oxfiordshire and Northamptonshire to win promotion at Eatbourne the weekend before.
