Nottingham is set to welcome international tennis from Sunday 16 – Sunday 23 February as the Aegon GB Pro-Series returns to the Nottingham Tennis Centre.
This year the tournament is an indoor Men’s ITF $10K and a Woman’s ITF $25K combined event which has attracted a strong British interest amongst players.
Daniel Smethurst, who has been training at the Nottingham Tennis Centre since November 2013, will be looking to secure his second Aegon GB Pro-Series title of the year. After retaining his title in Sunderland in January he was narrowly defeated by David Rice and Tom Farquharson in the last two Aegon GB Pro-Series finals in Sheffield and Wirral respectively.
Neil Pauffley, who also trains at Nottingham Tennis Centre and Nottingham born Joshua Ward-Hibbert will also be in action in the main draw alongside fellow British players Edward Corrie (1), Ashely Hewitt (3), Liam Broady, Tom Farquharson and James Marsalek.
In the women’s event, Tara Moore, Britain's No.4, will be aiming to continue her winning momentum from last weekend’s Fed Cup victory against Austria and will also be hoping to secure her second Aegon GB Pro-Series title of 2014.
There will also be local interest in the qualifying event, when Nottingham’s Freya Christie will be looking for good results in an international event on home soil.
Tournament Director Laura Jackson said: “There is a strong British presence at Nottingham in both the men’s and women events this year. Spectators are welcome, admission is free of charge and Nottingham Tennis Centre is a great local venue to see some of the best up and coming players from around the world”.
The men’s qualifying event will take place on Sunday 16 and Monday 17 February with the main draw running from the 18 -22 February. For women, qualifying will be on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 February, with the main draw kicking off on Wednesday 19 February.
The men’s single final is scheduled on Saturday 22 February and the women’s final will commence at 11am on Sunday 23 February.
Entry for spectators is free of charge.
