Underwood Primary

Thousands of young athletes from across the country are picking up a racket and playing competitive tennis as part of the School Games Festival this month.

Seven schools from across Nottinghamshire were victorious in their local borough or partnership Year 3&4 Mini Tennis Red competition to earn their place in the School Games.

12U Girls county cup team

The 12 and Under Girls County Cup team played against Warwickshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire last weekend at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

Farnsfield Tennis Club held its annual Mini Wimbledon / Open Day last Saturday 30th June.
Coaching was free to children and adults on the day.  Tombola, cake, book and plant stalls drew in the crowds. Drinks and bacon and sausage butties were on offer and in true Wimbledon tradition strawberries, cream and Pimms were available. 
All managed to stay dry (quite an achievement this summer!) and £312 was raised for club funds.

The British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships is one of six Super Series events on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour and one of the most important tournaments in the world outside of the Grand Slams.

In 2012 the British Open will be celebrating it's 23rd year and will once again feature many of the world's top players.

Come along to Nottingham Tennis Centre to enjoy the action and you can also join in the fun with tennis activity on Saturday 21 and 22 July.

Some great results on day two as David Phillipson and Gordon Reid both made the most of home advantage to record upsets in the first round of the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships at Nottingham Tennis Centre.

British No.3 Phillipson defeated world No.6 Nicolas Peifer 6-3, 7-6(7) to book his place in the last 16 while Reid came from a set down to clinch a 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 win over fifth seed Stefan Olsson from Sweden.

Rick Britton presentation

Rick Britton has received a Merit Award for his major contribution to Wheelchair Tennis.

Rick was presented the award by Funke Awoderu, Chair of the Disability Development Advisory Group, at a luncheon to celebrate the 23rd British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships which is taking place at the Nottingham Tennis Centre until 22nd July.

Gordon Reid

Today saw Gordon Reid reach his first ever Super Series semi-final after he defeated Joachim Gerard.  World No.1 Stephane Houdet was also knocked out by fellow Frenchman Michael Jeremiasz.

Andy Lapthorne and Jamie Burdekin ensured that Great Britain made up half of the quad singles semi-final draw as they both secured straight sets wins at the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships

The All England Club today confirmed that, following extensive consultation across the tennis and wider sporting world, The Championships’ dates will be moved back by one week with effect from 2015

Jamie Burdekin recorded his first career victory over world No.1 David Wagner to reach the final of the quad singles at the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships.

Gordon Reid has reached a Super Series final for the first time in his career after defeating world No.4 Ronald Vink at the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships.

Shingo Kunieda

Shingo Kunieda defeated Gordon Reid in the men’s singles final today to claim his fourth British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships title.

The Japanese world No.3 showed why he is a former world No.1 as he wrapped up a 6-3, 6-1 win on Centre Court to secure his first British Open title since 2009 at Nottingham Tennis Centre.

9 and Under County Cup Team

Notts 9 and Under County Team travelled to Lincolnshire to play matches against Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

The U12 Boys County team played their County Cup matches at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.
