Nottinghamshire Junior County Closed 2014, Held at the County Ground in The Park, Monday 25th August to Saturday 30th August 2014
16yr old Eban Straker-Meads, from The Park estate, won two singles titles last week at the Nottinghamshire Junior County Closed tennis tournament, beating James Chester from Gamston 6-4 6-1 in the U18 boys singles final & Daniel Blackburn from Kinoulton 4-6 6-1 10-4 in the U16 boys singles final. Eban trains at Nottingham tennis centre & plays at The Park tennis club. Daniel Blackburn & James Chester made up for their defeats to Eban by winning the U14 boys’ singles & U21 mens’ singles titles respectfully.
Eleven year old Anna Buckley from East Bridgford repeated last year’s feat by winning both the under 12 & under 14 girls singles titles. Beating Helena Constantinou from Bramcote 6-0 6-0 in the U12 girls singles final & Moira Johnson from Ilkeston TC 6-4 7-6 in the U14 girls singles final.
Brother & sister pair of Moira & Gabriel Johnson had individual success in the U16 girls singles & U12 boys singles respectfully. They then joined forces to win the U14 mixed doubles title beating Kieran O’Driscoll-Pabla & Helena Constantinou 6-1 7-5. Moira & Gabriel train at Ilkeston tennis centre.
The U18 girls’ singles title was won by Vicky Park 12-10 in a match deciding tie-break over Amber Bates from Worksop. Vicky, who plays for The Nottingham Castle club and trains on the county ground courts, saved 3 match points before going on to take the title.
In the green ball under 10 event, Jessica Spencer beat Daisy Banks 4-1 5-3 to win the girls title, while Puneet Sunner beat Daniel Wright 4-0 4-1 to win the boys title. Daniel Wright teamed up with Kade Straker-Meads to defeat Puneet Sunner & Haydn Oakes 4-2 1-4 10-4 in the U10 doubles final.
The under 9 Mini-Tennis Orange event was played at The Park TC on Friday 29th August, with Daniel Wright beating Noah Johnson 7-3 7-5 in the boys final and Jessica Spencer beating Olivia Corfe 7-3 7-0. 16 under 9 Orange players took part in the event.
The under 8 Mini-Tennis Red event was played at Nottingham Tennis Centre on Thursday 28th August, with 13 players participating. Mia Wainwright beat Connor Green 12-10 after both players won their round robin boxes
