Team – Eban Straker-Meads, Joseph Theaker, Daniel Blackburn, James Wood, Jessie Beiley, Katie Fuller, Amy Harrold-Vaux, Amy Smith.
The first round was against Hereford and Worcestershire, they had a strong team with both Eban and Joseph losing their matches. Daniel had a good win 4-2, 5-3, playing very well in the second set. James went to a set all, going on to win the match tie-break 10-7. The girls had a tough time all losing in straight sets. This gave us a 2-6 defeat.
The second round was against Bedfordshire, they have been strong in the last three meetings. Eban had a 4-0, 4-0 win, Joseph lost a tight match 3-5, 3-5, but Daniel won 4-0, 4-1, as did James, a close first set 5-3, but the second was 4-0. Jessie lost her match with a score that did not reflect the standard of tennis. Katie had a better match, it was a loss 2-4, 3-5, but Notts had a win as Katie’s opponent was too old for the event. Amy H-V won her match 4-0, 4-1, the same applied to her match, as did Amy Smith’s match which was also a walkover. They could not raise a team in this age group but at least fielded a team to compete. This gave us a 5-3 win over Bedfordshire.
The final round was against Essex who are top of the division. Eban played very well to win 4-2, 5-3, Joseph, Daniel and James lost in straight sets to much stronger players, they all fought for every points in long rallies, but could not sustain the weight of shot. Amy H-V was the only girl to win her match which she did 4-2, 5-3
All the players were great at supporting each other, as were the parents sitting in a freezing dome! Well done to you all.
