The Noots juniors all played some spectacular tennis throughout the day but the result could have been a lot different if a couple of key points had gone their way.
On paper it was the Derbyshire team that had the strongest team but that didn’t seem so obvious when playing against our Nottinghamshire team. Although the result didn’t show, the Notts Team pushed them all the way in the fixture but without any rewards.
Nottinghamshire also played against a Lincolnshire team but made light work of them with victories in the singles and the doubles fixtures.
That left a tight fixture between Notts and Leicestershire to play for 2nd and 3rd place. After the round of singles the score stood at 3 – 3. This could have been so different however, with both the Notts boys playing at number one, William Caunt and number two Harry Harrold-Vaux having match points on a number of occasions but were unable to take any of them. Going into the doubles, Notts needed to win two out of the three doubles to take second place overall. The first one was in the bag with a yet another great doubles win for Nathan West and Holly Spencer. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take either of the remaining doubles rubbers although pushing all the way and again having match points.
Overall the Nottinghamshire team will have learnt a number of key lessons from the day's tennis that should help towards their tennis careers and future appearances representing the county.
Great work team
