Nottinghamshire County teams were awarded the title of the Most Improved County in the County Cup Race of 2016 (from 28th position in 2015 to 11th position in 2016). Livvy Tomkins, who has played for the county since she was aged just nine and now plays for the Senior Ladies team, was chosen to represent all the county’s teams at a presentation during a cocktail party held at Wimbledon on the first Friday of the tournament. Livvy has sent in this report on her experience:
‘The night began with a variety of drinks and snacks which were served on entrance to the party. We were able to talk to the other award winners who attended the evening and it was lovely to hear about everyone’s achievements, as well as catch up with some old friends. The awards began with volunteers who had been recognised for their exceptional efforts and proceeded to some of the most prestigious awards such as ladies’ and men’s player of the year. Nottinghamshire was awarded the ‘most improved county of the year’, for which I was honoured to receive a silver plate on behalf of the county, a reflection of the brilliant efforts and achievements of all age groups throughout the year. The evening ran smoothly (despite the speaker getting my name slightly wrong during the presentation!) and ended with more drinks and snacks as everyone passed around their congratulations. Overall I had a brilliant day and thoroughly enjoyed watching some of the best tennis players in the world, including Andy Murray and Heather Watson, and departed for the long journey home feeling truly enthused and inspired.’
