West Bridgford Tennis Club’s ladies 50’s team were selected this year to represent Great Britain in the European Club Championships in the Algarve, Portugal.
This was a great opportunity for the team to represent their country and compete against high quality opposition in the fantastic setting of Val do Lobo in Portugal.
On the first day the team defeated the Belgian club Parival in the first round matches; this enabled them to compete in the top tier of the championships.
Closely fought defeats against the Dutch (3rd set doubles) and the 1st seeds Germany, and a victory over the Swedes resulted in the West Bridgford team finishing 6th from 12 competing teams.
The team were delighted with their week’s endeavours particularly given that many of the top lady players in Europe were participating.
The championships were conducted in a very friendly and sporting atmosphere and it has been anounced that West Bridgford will be hosting visits from teams from a number of countries in the future.
