BINGHAM’S Dave Phillipson is just one win away from the quarter finals at the London 2012 Paralympics after another stunning performance at Eton Manor.
Phillipson defeated 15th seed Martin Legner at the Olympic Park to reach the last 16 following a comprehensive 6-3, 6-2 victory.
The Nottinghamshire ace beat Canada’s Joel Dembe in the first round and will now face second seed Shingo Kunieda from Japan for a place in the last eight.
Phillipson, who also teamed up with fellow Brit Alex Jewitt to record a 6-3, 6-2 win over Argentinean duo Daniel Pellegrina and Yann Avanthi in the mens doubles, said: “Playing on Centre Court was amazing and after a few nerves in my first set, I really settled down.
“Martin beat me in Beijing but I felt I played a lot better today and I’m really happy to knock out a seed.
“I enjoyed playing the doubles with Alex as well and it was a lot of fun.”
