Red Event
The Nottinghamshire County Closed Red (8 & under) took place on Thursday 29th August at Nottingham Tennis Centre with the two favourites eventually coming out on top.
In the girls event Anna Buckley played some fantastic tennis to sweep aside the other competitors winning all of her matches and only dropping 10 points along the way. The runner up in the event was Rachael Alvey
The boys event had a strong line up but it was Kieran O’Driscoll-Pabla who took the trophy in the end. This wasn’t a straight forward victory however as Kieran had to use all of his skills and determination to come from behind in the semi final to beat Willoughby Jago and then match points down to beat Thomas Connelly in the final.
Praise must go to all the of the red competitors as the efforts put in by all of the players was an absolute credit to themselves.
Orange Event
The Nottinghamshire County Closed Orange event (9 & under) was played at the Park Tennis Club on Friday 30th August and threw up a feast of exciting play.
The girls event had a select few players but all were capable of winning. The eventual winner was the 2009 red ball winner, Helena Constantinou who represented the County playing at number one earlier in the year and was able to add to her trophy collection by defeating all of the other girls. The runner up of the girl’s event was Anna Buckley playing a year young, who continued her great form following winning the red event the day before
The boys event had 16 of the counties most promising players taking part. With having to win a box league and then an eight draw knockout, the eventual winners was clearly going to be put through their paces. After three hours tennis the last four players competing in the semi finals William Caunt, Kieran O’Driscoll-Pabla, Nathan West, and Harry Harrold-Vaux. All four players had already represented the County earlier in the year and all four possessing the skills to win the event. In a tightly contested closing stage, it was Harry Harrold-Vaux becoming the eventual winner beating a very competitive William Caunt in the final in three action packed sets.
Great credit to all the players as the event was played with great spirit and support for fellow competitors.
