We played at Corby Tennis Centre. It is a basic venue with two sets of bubble courts. The weather for the day was cold which meant the playing conditions were slow but the players were fine once they warmed up…cold to spectate!!
Our first match was against Cambridgeshire. The playing conditions were cold in the bubble so the balls didn’t travel that quick. They had good depth to their team and overall experience. All of the boys & girls were higher rated than Notts. This made it a tough first round and we lost all matches to a more experienced team.
Our second round of matches was against Hertfordshire. Again we were playing against a stronger team with all players higher rated than us! The Notts boys & girls showed true fighting spirit and we managed to get two wins overall. Jack Mclachlan played some solid tennis and beat Alex Watts 4-2 4-1. Anna Kirk had a tough match but managed to stay strong mentally and won the third set match tie break 10-7!
Our last round of matches was against Oxfordshire. This was the team we had our best chance against as we were evenly matched. Jack again managed to get our only win from the boys against George Slater 5-4 (7-3) 4-1. From the girls Jasmine Ramsden received a walk over as her opponent became ill and Millie Rajecki played some strong tennis and picked up a win against Chloe Elliot 4-1 4-1. Anna Kirk had an excellent match but narrowly lost to Jasmine Conway in a third set match tie break.
We had a great time over the weekend and it was great to see the Notts team in action.
A big thank you to all the parents getting the players to the Tennis Centre to meet and well done to all of the players for working hard!
