In the first stage of the competition, winners and runners-up from Caunton, David Lloyd West Bridgford, Farnsfield, Lady Bay, Welbeck and West Bridgford tennis clubs who ran the 14U competition (restricted to players rated 7.1-10.2) were invited to take part in the Notts County Final weekend on the 6th/7th July.
This year, both Girls’ County finalists were from Farnsfield TC - Annabel Bird beat Charlotte Freeman to win the Girls’ final. Interestingly, it was the 2nd County Final for both girls having played last year for 3rd/4th place!
The Boys’ County Final was contested between Hugo Dunn from West Bridgford TC and Indy Weir from David Lloyd West Bridgford. Hugo was the winner, aged 11 so quite an achievement!
Both winners now qualify to compete in singles & doubles against 43 other County Finals’ winners, from all over the UK at the National Finals, held at The All England Lawn Tennis Club SW19 on the famous Wimbledon grass courts.
And both runners-up have earned an invitation to a 1-day coaching clinic at the National Finals on the grass courts led by Jamie Baker and Tim Henman.
Congratulations to all the County Finalists who played this weekend; good luck to Annabel & Hugo in the National Finals in August and wishing Charlotte and Indy a great day too.
