Mansfield Tennis Club Open day fun, despite the weather!

Monday, June 10, 2019

Expectations were high for a good turnout for the Mansfield Lawn Tennis Club (MLTC) Open Day on Saturday 18 May. The publicity campaign couldn’t have gone better. Some 2,000 flyers had been delivered, facebook had been activated and, in the week that saw work start on the new clubhouse, there had been reports on local TV, radio and in the local press all mentioning the Open Day.

The stage was set for a record breaking day. But as Saturday morning dawned, the skies were grey and the rain came down. At 1pm the volunteers were ready with hotdogs, burgers, cakes and hot and cold drinks, but no visitors. Fortunately the rain stopped and less than an hour later there were plenty of visitors. Not a record but just over 50 attended and all the hard courts were in use. The juniors were split into under and over ten groups and parents were encouraged to join in. The Open Day was staged as part of the Nature Valley Big Tennis weekend.

Action took place on all five hard courts during the MTLC Open Day 18 May 2019 but it was too wet to use the four grass courts at the club
