In day of high drama on and off the court, Farnsfield Orange U9’s secured a historic victory at the Nottinghamshire Winter League finals.
Waking up to six inches of snow, there were concerns that the some members of the team wouldn’t be able to get to Nottingham, however a mixture of Dunkirk spirit and heroic driving from the Whitchurch clan ensured a team of Lucy Whitchurch, Haydn Oakes and Rhys Biro-Moore arrived ready to do battle.
The matches were played indoors and a round robin format of timed 20 minute singles and doubles matches were organised .
Going into the final round Farnsfield and the Nottingham Tennis Centre were level on points and the spectre of points difference was looming
With the Tennis Centre also winning their final singles and doubles, both teams were tied with 5 points each, a tense 10 minutes ensued whilst the point difference was calculated.
A huge cheer went up from players, parents and supporters as Farnsfield were announced as the winners.
