Notts Clubs reap benefit from grants

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

There have been two major sources of grants for tennis clubs in recent months:

  • Nottinghamshire County Council established a £1million Nottinghamshire Legacy Fund to respond to the legacy challenge created by the 2012 Games, and to maintain the momentum of increased sports participation that has been generated by them.
The following Tennis Clubs have been provisionally awarded grants for lighting, resurfacing and for revenue projects:

          Attenborough                 £970
          Burton Joyce              £10,000
          Collingham                £31,800
          East Bridgford           £15,000
          Farnsfield                    £6,517
          Fernwood                    £2,781
          Lady Bay                   £10,000
          Retford                      £21,000
          Upper Broughton       £25,000
          West Bridgford          £25,000
          Wheatley                   £25,000
          Woodthorpe              £25,000

  • Sport England’s Inspired Facilities is focused on making it easier for local community and volunteer groups to improve and refurbish sports clubs or transform non-sporting venues into modern grassroots sport facilities.

Two clubs that have benefitted from the recent Round 3 of grants were Mapperley Park (£50,000) and Magdala (£43,000).

Round 4 is currently open for applications until 29 April.  The final Round 5 has  provisional dates of 21 October to 16 December.

Sport England have indicated they are now less likely to fund tennis projects that upgrade / resurface club courts, unless they are good projects and meet all the priorities.
