Congratulations to Isabell Tyrrell, British Tennis’ over 45 number 1, who recently represented Great Britain in the World Seniors Tennis Championships. Isabelle, who trains at David Lloyd West Bridgford, led Team GB to victory and the world title for the first time ever, coming home with a gold medal to show for it.
This achievement was even more remarkable as less than 6 months ago Isabelle, now ranked 6 in the world, had major surgery on her foot, and was often seen in the mornings in the gym with her crutches attempting to do whatever she could to keep herself in shape. Isabelle said "The members and staff were great, always offering to help and asking how I was getting on, as the rehabilitation took over four months". Then in the month prior to the tournament she found that she had torn the rotator cuff in her shoulder calling her ability to play into question. However, with the help, encouragement and expertise of West Bridgford tennis coach Pete Godber and personal trainer Scott Gibson, she moderated her technique, and increased her speed and agility to enable her to compete.
