Corby 12 Counties - 14U Boys and Girls
On Saturday 15th October the 14 and Under Nottinghamshire tennis team travelled to Corby to compete in division 2A of the 12 Counties Championships.
The event consists of 4 boys and 4 girls each playing a singles match against their opposite number from each of the other 3 counties in the division. The singles match is best of 3 sets, first to 4 games with a match tie-break at 1 set all.
The Nottinghamshire team competing was;
Boys:
1. Gabriel Johnson
2. Aidan Law
3. Daniel Wright
4. Phoenix Weir
Girls:
1. Amelia Rajecki
2. Jessica Spencer
3. Jasmine Ramsden
4. Ellie Fitzsimmons
The first match was against Cambridge. Gabriel Johnson and Amelia Rajecki recorded two impressive wins against their opposite no 1's and despite Aiden Law and Daniel Wright pushing their higher rated opponents to a championship tie-break in both matches the team eventually went down 6-2.
The second match was against Hertfordshire. Again Gabriel and Amelia got the team off to a winning start recording wins against Andre Raath and Annabel Davis and despite Daniel Wright taking Vitushan Balamurali (5.2) all the way to a championship tie-break it was a similar story for Nottinghamshire eventually losing 6-2.
The final match was against Oxfordshire and this was going to be the game that every player in the Nottinghamshire team showed their fighting spirit. Gabriel, Aidan and Phoenix recorded wins for the boys and Amelia and Ellie won for the girls. For Aidan, Phoenix and Ellie not only did they record their first win of the day, but each match was against a higher rated player which contributed to a final win for Nottinghamshire of 5-3.
A special mention must go to Gabriel Johnson and Amelia Rajecki who both went undefeated on the day!
