Our opening match, held at West Bridgford Tennis Club, resulted in a comfortable three rubbers to one win having taken seven sets and lost two. A good boost for us for the future matches.
Dorset
Away to play in Downton. Once again we managed to win by three rubbers to one. As in our first match the lost rubber was a tie break. Not our favourite way to decide the outcome.
Shropshire
Away to play in Shrewsbury. We were forewarned that this would be our most difficult match and so it turned out. Like ourselves they were unbeaten at this point and carried on the trend! This time we lost by three rubbers to one and by seven sets to three. Have to say, once again, lost tie breaks did not help our cause but they were the superior team.
Leicestershire
Away at Leicester. Tie breaks ruled again and our rubbers were two apiece but six sets to four in our favour and forty games to twenty six kept us, so we hoped, in second place.
Avon
Our final match at home was in West Bridgford where we got back to our winning ways with another three rubbers to one victory. This was our hardest match and the one we needed to win to maintain our second place. Every rubber for both pairs went to tie breaks but we must finally have learnt from the other matches and managed to win them all bar one.
I would to thank everyone who played, for their commitment to the team and help with these matches. I am sure I can say that we all enjoyed ourselves.
Thanks also to West Bridgford Tennis club for the use of their indoor courts and for providing the after match food.
