The women’s 35+ Inter-county championships were played from 2nd to 4th August on the superb grass courts of Devonshire Park, Eastbourne. This year we were back playing 5 rubbers, rather than the reduced 3, in the glorious sunshine.

Day 1 – Nottinghamshire vs South of Scotland
We are very excited to welcome a new youngster to the team, Sarah Wright, playing at no1. Nottinghamshire had a fantastic start to the weekend with singles wins and all three doubles.
Nottinghamshire 5-0
Day 2 – Nottinghamshire vs East of Scotland
Having struggled to gather a team over the past few years, East of Scotland this year came out with an incredibly strong team. Sarah had a battle with the no1 Mhairi Beattie falling short in the match tie break, a match worthy of being in Div 1 rather than in 5! Maia also lost a close match against Sarah Mcfadyen, as did Lisa and Caroline. After the first round we were going into the second, 3-0 down against a very strong county.
Nottinghamshire 1-4
Day 3 – Nottinghamshire vs Shropshire
Going into the third and final day, both counties had secured a win and a loss over the first two days but were comfortable in the knowledge that neither would be relegated. Owing to injury from Shropshire, 2 doubles remained incomplete.
Nottinghamshire 3-2
The Nottinghamshire ladies as always gave it their best, coming second in our group. We will be joined by Oxford and Cornwall who will move into Division 5 in 2020, along with Northumberland, Derbyshire and Shropshire. We look forward to the challenges ahead.
Thank you for all your support, enthusiasm and effort once again.
