The saying ‘on paper we are the weakest team’ couldn’t have been truer for the Nottinghamshire U14 boys.
On the first day we were lined up against Herts who as ratings go were probably the strongest team in Loughborough over the weekend. Playing against some of the strongest players in the country never mind the county was a great experience for the boys. We learnt a few lessons while on court but a crushing 6-0 defeat was inevitable.
Next up was Lincolnshire. Again, another tough line up of opponents who were all higher rated than our boys. A much closer battle took place which included an epic from Daniel Blackburn who notched up our only win. The score line suggests a battering but the truth was it could have gone either way. In the end we lost 5-1
On the last day Leicestershire stood in our way. Again, another tough line up for the boys. Again we had some close battles but they showed to have too much experience and beat us convincingly.
Over the weekend we had a game plan which worked. We fought for every single point. We kept our discipline throughout every single match. We held our heads high and were gracious in defeat. We were the weakest team but the boys can be very proud of their performances. We had a young team and all will be a little wiser next year when we return stronger, bigger and better.
