This was the last age group round to be played this season.
The first round was against Northamptonshire, Daniel played very well but went down in the first set 2-4, fought hard to stay in the second but lost 4-5 on the set tie break. James had a great match, lasting almost two hours, many deuce games, but went down 3-5, 3-5. Joel also had a tough time, staying well into the game but he also went down 3-5, 0-4. Harry played well, having an easier time on court to win 4-1, 4-1.
The girls also had some tough matches, Anna lost the first set against Leah Milligan 0-4, she won the second 4-2, going on to win the match tie break 10-5. Moira was against a more consistent player, losing in straight sets. Jessie played well in the first set to win 4-2, then lost the second 0-4, she stayed in the match tie break, but lost 7-10. Evie played well, but went down in straight sets.
This gave our team a 2-6 loss.
The second round was against Bedfordshire. Daniel had tough match losing in straight sets , James had an easier match this round winning 4-0, 4-1. Joel played his best tennis in this match, he lost the first 1-4, played a great second set to win 5-3, but went down 4-12 in the match tie break. Harry also lost his match in this round.
Anna won her first set 5-3, she then lost the second 0-4, and in a tight match tie break lost 5-10. Moira played her best match, she lost the first set 4-5, won the second 4-2, but then lost the match tie break 8-10. Jessie and Evie played well, but against higher rated players, both lost in straight sets.
This gave the team a 1-7 loss.
The final round was against Leicestershire. They had their top players out , our boys all lost in straight sets, with Daniel and James’ opponents playing off 2-2 ratings, with Joel and Harry against 3-1, and 3-2 rated players respectively.
The girls had similar experiences, Anna and Moira managed to scrape 3-5 results in their second sets, but the team went down 0-8.
They all supported each other and there was great team spirit throughout the day, with parents giving their usual support.
