Team (from left to right) : Ethan Wright, Thomas Evison Varley, Thomas Connelly and
Kieran O’Driscoll-Pabla with captain James Cale
Warwickshire beat Nottinghamshire 4-0
Nottinghamshire beat North Hants 3-1
Unfortunately due to the bad weather we were only able to compete on the first day of the event against two counties.
On the first day we played against Warwickshire and they had a very strong team. Thomas, Kieran and Ethan lost in straight sets. Ethan and Thomas Evison Varley played in the doubles together and lost in straight sets to an experienced doubles pair.
Our second match was against North Hants. Thomas Evison Varley played at number 3 and lost in straight sets, having put in a brave performance. Kieran played at number 2 and won in a third set match tie-break. This was a fantastic performance from Kieran, as he was a set down and managed to turn the match around and win the second and third sets on tie-breaks. Thomas Connelly played at number 1 and also managed to win his match in a third set match tie-break. Thomas showed great belief and determination during the course of this match. Kieran and Thomas Connelly played the doubles and won in straight sets. This was a strong performance from both players to close the match out.
Due to the rain on the second day we were unable to play against Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. This meant the overall result was based on the first day. Warwickshire was the only team to beat both counties played, so they were the overall winners.
I was very pleased with the all the players in the team. It was good to see the boys support and get behind each other on and off the court during the event.
