Lucy Brown is two matches away from the main draw of the Aegon Trophy in Nottingham after overcoming fellow Briton Anna Smith in their first-round qualifier.
World No. 690 Brown battled back from a set down to beat Smith, ranked 208 places higher than her, 3-6 7-6(6) 6-2 to advance to the second round where she meets top seed Marta Sirotkina of Russia on Sunday.
Second seed Risa Ozaki fought her way past two British teenagers to move to within one match of the main draw.
First it was 15-year-old Katie Swan who pushed the World No. 173 to three sets.
The World No. 74 junior recovered from a slow start against Ozaki to clinch the second set, but was eventually beaten 6-2 5-7 6-4 in her first senior ITF match.
Harriet Dart, ranked 894, was next to worry Ozaki, claiming the first set in comprehensive style against a player ranked 721 places higher.
And while Ozaki managed to edge to a 3-0 lead early in the second, 18-year-old Dart made her Japanese opponent fight for her 2-6 7-5 6-2 win.
"It was a tough day and I'm tired after that last win," said Ozaki.
"I was scared in that second match and really had to try hard because I wanted to win."
Victory for Ozaki leaves Brown as the last remaining Briton in qualifying, with 11 exiting.
Former Aegon Trophy champion Eleni Daniilidou is also two matches away from the main draw after beating Britain's Samantha Murray 6-3 6-1.
However, five Brits are already in the main draw with Johanna Konta seeded eighth and Emily Webley-Smith joining Tara Moore, Katy Dunne and Naomi Broady as wild card entries.
Meanwhile, British No. 2 Heather Watson has withdrawn her entry from the Aegon Trophy after her second round exit at the French Open against Simona Halep on Thursday.
In the men's draw, former World No. 8 and 2006 Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis will avoid qualifying after being promoted to the main draw as a direct acceptance following a number of withdrawals.
James Ward has also been elevated, with his wild card going to fellow Briton David Rice.
Men's qualifying commences on Sunday with the remaining women's qualifying matches also being played.
The Aegon Trophy, starting on Monday 2nd June, is the first of back-to-back events making up the Nottingham Festival of Tennis, with the Aegon Challenge finishing on Sunday 15th June.
Entry to both the Aegon Trophy and Aegon Challenge is free for all spectators.
