Team: Liana Sharratt- Blanksby, Mia Wainwright, Lilia Dunn, Naomi Szczur
This event was played over two days at Eastgate Tennis Club, Lincoln. It was played on a round robin basis, playing 3 singles and 1 doubles match, with Lincolnshire, Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire in the group.
The girls played Derbyshire in the first round, Liana won the first set 4-1, lost the second 4-5, but held her nerve to win the match tiebreak 10-6. Mia had an easier match, playing very consistent tennis won 4-1, 4-0. Lilia had a tight match, she was 2-3 down, but came back to win the first set 5-3, and likewise in the second set. This was a great start to go into the doubles 3-0 up. Liana and Naomi played this match to win 4-2, 4-0.
The second round was against Leicestershire, Liana played well but against Talia Neilson-Gatenby a 7-2 rated player lost 0-4, 0-4. Mia was also up against a much stronger player Tabitha Holmes she lost 0-4, 2-4. Lilia played well, but again Fallon Reid was too strong and consistent, she lost 2-4, 1-4. Naomi and Mia played the doubles, they lost the first set 2-4, won the second playing very well, and went on to win the match tiebreak 10-4.
We played Lincolnshire on Sunday , Liana had a tight match against Stephanie Ainsworth a physically much stronger girl, but Liana fought hard to win 4-2, 5-3. Mia had an easy win in straight sets. Lilia played very well but lost the first set on a set tiebreak, and then the second 1-4. Naomi and Mia played the doubles, winning the first set 4-2, then lost the second on a set tiebreak, going on to lose the match tiebreak 7-10. This gave us a 2-2 match result, so a match shoot out had to be played. Liana and Mia played this, winning easily 10-2.
The final round was against Warwickshire, Liana played well winning 4-1, 5-3 against Claudia sheftelia, Mia had another straight set win, but Lilia again played well but went down 1-4, 3-5. At 2-1 up Liana and Lilia played the doubles, it was a close first set, winning the set tiebreak 10-7, and then went on confidently to win the next set 4-2, giving an overall 3-1 match result.
The two days were played with great team spirit, great tennis played by all the girls, coming second in the group, Leicestershire winning.
My thanks go to the parents and grandparents for their support throughout the weekend.
