Day one match against Hertfordshire was the longest I have Captained and also for the Referee. We Started play at 9-30 am, the last match was completed at 7-30pm. There were six 3 set matches giving the close result of Notts going 4-5 down in rubbers, 12-12 in sets and 100 games to 96 to Notts!
All the team played well, after the singles we were 2-4 down Freya and Emelia winning their matches. Unfortunately on this day we did not have Nina as she had a GCSE exam. Going into the doubles we knew we had to win all 3 matches. Emelia and Sarah-kate won in 2 sets, Freya and Charlotte won in 3 sets, but sadly Shanice and Rebecca lost in the match tie break 7-10. It was a great effort by all the team.
Day two was against Staffordshire, Nina, Rebecca and Freya made a great start by all winning in 2 set matches, as did Sarah-Kate, but Emelia and Charlotte both went down in 2 sets. Nina and Rebecca won in 2 sets as did Freya and Charlotte , but Emelia and Sarah-Kate lost in the match tie break 5-10. This gave us and overall win of 6-3.
The final day was against Leicestershire, we did feel fairly confident as they had lost heavily to Staffs, but we all were keen to see if Staffs could beat Herts, as this would have made the whole weekend go to a percentage countback. This unfortunately didn’t happen, but we did beat Leics 6-3. The match of the day had to go to Corinne Blythe and Helen Thorpe who beat Charlotte and Freya in a great doubles 6-3 5-7 10-6.
The weekend was played with great team spirit. My thanks go to Carol Bloomer for her help, and to the parents who came to support.
