Congratulations to our 10U County Girls team who were undefeated against Lincs, Leics, Derbys and Northants to win through to the National Finals!
The event was played over two days at Grantham Tennis Club.
The first round was against Lincolnshire, Mia Wainwright, Lilia and Naomi played the singles, all winning convincingly in straight sets. They were playing first to four, with a match tie-break at set all.
Lilia and Mia Coppins played the doubles which they lost, but we still had a 3-1 match win.
The second round was against Derbyshire, Mia W won 4-1, 5-3. Lilia had a tough match, she won the first set 4-2, lost the second 2-4, and in a well fought match tie-break, lost it 13-15. Naomi had another 4-0, 4-0 win, taking us into the doubles 2-1 up. Mia W and Naomi played the doubles losing on a match tie-break, taking us to 2-2 in the match. A shoot off match tie-break then had to be played for a winner. Lilia and Mia W played this, it was close but they managed a 10-8 win. This gave Notts a 3-2 match result.
The first match on the second day was against Northamptonshire, Mia Wainwright and Alexandra Manojlovic played the star match of the weekend. Every game went to a sudden death deuce, with Alexandre winning the first set 5-3, Mia won the second in a set tie-break, and went on to win the match tie-break 10-8, both players played very high quality tennis throughout the match, the referee speaking of it in his presentation speech.
The final match was against Leicestershire, Mia W, Lilia and Naomi all won their singles easily, with Mia W and Lilia winning the doubles also on two sets, giving Notts a 4-0 win.
The girls played so well in all matches, so qualifying for the National Finals in Sunderland. Sadly Nottinghamshire have had to withdraw, due to players being unavailable for various reasons over the weekend of the 9th, 10th,11th June.
The weekend at Grantham was played with great team spirit, my thanks go to the parents for all their support.
