Thursday, November 08, 2012

The Notts U10's made a fantastic start to the Winter season at Corby beating Hereford and Worcester by 6-2; Suffolk by 8-0 and losing to Cambridge by a close 2-5.

Teams:
Kieren O’Driscoll – Pabla, Thomas Connelly, William Trease, Thomas Evison-Varley.            Anna Buckley, Amelia Rajecki, Jasmine Ramsden, Rachel Alvey.

This was the first round of this season’s event. Unfortunately Suffolk  were unable to enter a girls team, so they only had two matches.  Notts played Cambridge first, Anna played very solid tennis winning 4-0, 4-1, Amelia had a tougher match, she lost 3-5, 3-5. Jasmine played well but also lost 2-4, 2-4, as did Rachel who played a nervous first match.

The girls second round was against Hereford and Worcs, Anna had another easy win 4-0, 4-1, as did Amelia 4-0, 4-1. Jasmine had another tough match, she lost 1-4, 0-4, with a score not reflecting the match. Rachel was far more confident, having a convincing win 4-0,4-1.

The boys first round was against Herford and Worcs, Kieren won the first set 5-4, winning the tie-break in a hard fought 14-12, he then lost the second 0-4, but went on to win the match tie-break 10-4. Thomas Connelly played very solid tennis winning 4-2, 4-2, William lost 2-4, 1-4, Thomas Evison-Varley had an easy win 4-0, 4-1.

Their second round was against Cambridge, Kieren won 5-3, 4-1, Thomas had a tough time, he won the first set 1-4, then lost the second 4-0, the match tie-break was close but he went down 10-7. William lost the first set 0-4, then played more confidently to win 4-2, and went on to win the match tie-break 10-6.Thomas had a hard match losing 1-4, 1-4.

In the last round against Suffolk Kieren had a great match, he lost the first set 0-4, won the second 4-2, went on to win the match tie-break 10-5. Thomas played very well winning 5-4, 4-5, 10-6. William had the longest match of the day, he stuck in there to win 3-5, 5-4, 10-6.  Thomas played well, he also had a win 5-3, 4-0. This gave us an 8-0 win over Suffolk as the girl’s matches were all counted as wins.

There was great team spirit throughout a very cold day in the air domes, my thanks go to the parents for their support.
