Div 2A – Captain Jill Shelvey
A reasonably successful season, some really tight matches with “if only we had won the 3rd set tie-break” being said rather too often!
We finished 3rd in the league missing out on promotion back to Div 1 by a couple of those 3rd set tie-breaks!

Match 1- Notts 4 Leics 0
Sue Copestake/ Sue Reesby won 5-7,6-1,10-3
Jill Shelvey/ Helen Drummond won 6-1,6-0
Sue Copestake/Sue Reesby won 6-2,6-0
Jill Shelvey/Helen Drummond won 6-4,6-0.
A good start to the season, home advantage always helps and the team were confident after a great win.
Match 2 - Notts 3 Cambs 1
The one-way system in Cambridge was as testing of our skills and patience as was the tennis. Jill Beardsall stepped down from the 65s and proved a very able replacement-

Sue Copestake/Jill Beardsall won 6-3,6-2
Jill Shelvey/Helen Drummond won 6-2,6-4

Match 3 – Notts 1 Shrops 3
A visit to Shrewsbury. This was the downfall of our season; a winnable match but on the day we were second best.
Sue Copestake /Sue Reesby Lost 4-6, 3-6
Jill Shelvey/Helen Drummond Lost7-6, 3-6,8-10
Sue Copestake /Sue Reesby won 6-1,6-1
Jill Shelvey/Helen Drummond Lost 6-4,6-7, 7-10.
The match was a 3-1 loss but it could easily have been a 3-1 win “if only we had won the 3rd set tie-break”!!
Match 4- Notts 2 Herts 2
Well it couldn’t have been closer!
Sets equal. Games equal – 39 all!!
The rules were searched and the referee contacted but it comes down to one point each team; a real draw!!

Both pairs won one match and lost the other closely.
Match 5 - Notts 1 East of Scotland 3
A loss in the final match to the league eventual winners who were unbeaten throughout the season.
Despite their record our team put up a good performance to make it difficult for them.
