Over 190 members and guests attended to help the club celebrate Collingham Tennis Club's new court and lighting system.
The ceremony was opened by Tony Pickard, President of Notts LTA , one time player and Davis Cup Captain and for 15 years coach to Wimbledon Champion Stefan Egberg. Tony told us a few amusing anecdotes and complimented the club on its amazing achievements in so short a time, highlighting the growth in junior players. Tony, Dominic and Nathan were presented with Certificates of Honorary Membership of the Club, as were Jerome Wright of Gusto our Project Manager and Ruth Copleston our Grants applications advisor. A flower basket was given to Tony for his wife. Tony then mingled with the crowd, chatting to dozens of members.
There was then a "big hit" where everyone either hit a ball in the air or took photos of this happening.
Dominic and Nathan West played a short exhibition match before taking on challengers of all ages and giving coaching tips. (Dominic plays for GB U16 and has competed in Europe. Nathan his younger brother will be chasing him soon!). They impressed the guests with the high standard of their exhibition play and their pleasant and relaxed manner off court, joining in with the Ball and Speed Machine challenges and talking to new fans of all ages.
All present were treated to an incredible array of delicious cakes baked by members and treats sponsored by Brakes Bros.
Slazenger sponsored a racket for the free raffle.
Andy McFeeters Notts LTA Development Manager cut the tennis court shaped celebration cake.
The Speed Machine and new Ball Machine proved very popular and the planned end time of 5pm ran over till 6.30pm. Many people remarked on the welcoming, happy and relaxed atmosphere on such a lovely afternoon.
The club's next big event is a 24 hour Tennisathon open to all clubs, families and organisations. £20 per court per hour. Slots are already being booked.
