Read Farnsfield's report of their success in the Green event of the Mini Tennis League finals:-
Over the past 6 months Farnsfield's U10 team of Alex Johnson, Daniel Jones (not pictured) Haydn Oakes, Lucy Whitchurch and Rhys Biro-Moore had battled past four other North Nottingham Teams to reach the final of the Mini Tennis Winter League.
Nottingham Tennis Centre was once again the venue for the final as a team of Oakes, Whitchurch and Biro-Moore faced stiff competition from West Bridgford, Grantham and Nottingham to see who would be the number one U10 team in Nottinghamshire. In the semi-final Farnsfield lined up against West Bridgford, and in a hard fought battle, with a number of very close matches Farnsfield prevailed 6 -3.
In the final they faced a strong Nottingham Team which included the current Boys County Champion Kade Straker-Meades. After the first round of games Farnsfield were trailing 2-1 but Farnsfield roared back at Nottingham in round 2, with Oakes particularly dominant against the Nottingham number 2 player, to level the scores at 3 games all. Going into the final round, the crunch match was centred on the 2 number one players, Biro-Moore and Straker- Meades. Early on Biro-Moore had to withstand a barrage of heavy hitting from his opponent, but slowly his speed around the court and impressive shot making started to count and he became the winner. With Oakes also winning convincingly, this meant that Farnsfield had won the match 5-4 and were crowned champions!!! .
