Wimbledon fever at East Leake on 7th July

Thursday, July 11, 2013

Sunday the 7th of July brought us hot weather and great Tennis all round, not just down at SW19 where we saw a champion lifting the Wimbledon trophy. Just round the corner at East Leake Leisure Centre saw their own champions lifting trophies after an equally exhilerating day of tennis.

The day saw a men's singles event, with winner Oshin Sarkis Hakobian beat Philip Anthony Saddler in a gruelling 3 set final.
There was a great level of tennis in the 8.1 event, which saw Luke Ince beat Sebastian Barker of Lincolnshire in an emotional final.
Division 10 saw 19 entrants battle out for the 10.2 and 10.1 trophys. The winner of the 10.2 final was Nathan West of Nottingham who had a excellent match with Alex Atkin, also from Nottingham. The 10.1 final saw two more Nottingham players, under 12's James Mcgerity fight it out against under 16's Thomas Cumberland, with James winning in a nail biting set of 7-5.
The day was completed by a great mini-green event, which saw Robert Dowsett beat Krishnan Jivanji 4-2.

The organisers Steve Attewell and Richard France want to thank everyone who attended and supported the players throughout the day, the venue providing great facilities (and a television!) and a big thanks to our sponsers Parkside Tiles.
