Unfortunately it became necessary to call off the doubles section of this tournament due to bad weather on Sunday 26th July, but the weather was kinder on the Saturday so the singles matches were all completed and took place on the grass courts at The County Ground.
MENS SINGLES SAT 25th JULY.
The mens singles event produced fine matches throughout the day with at times very attacking net play as you might hope for given that the event was played on the County grass courts.
Liam Wright, Mansfield LTC, a former losing finalist in this event in 2013, came through strongly to dominate his half of the draw but had to wait some time for Matt Whitehead, who lost in the final last year, to come through to play the final.
Matt, representing West Bridgford TC, quickly dominated play taking the first set 6-2
but then started to slip back in the second as Liam steadied down for what proved to be a very close set which he eventually won 7-6 to even the match.
The third 10 point tiebreak set was again very evenly balanced but at 5-5 the match began to swing in Matt’s favour as his fierce service returns put more and more pressure on Liam’s service which faltered enough for Matt to seize the Championship with a 10-5 third set win.

LADIES SINGLES SAT 25th JULY.
The very low entry for the ladies singles was very disappointing but not so the final between Anna Buckley and Sarah Wright who had both rushed back from tournaments in other parts of the country to compete.
It was always going to be a contest between the experience of senior county player Sarah and the exuberance and energy of 13 year junior county player Anna, and this contrast was reflected in the final score but gave no hint of the high quality of the match which delighted all those watching.
