Venue
We played at Northampton Kings Park Tennis Centre. It is a nice Club with four indoor courts and four outdoor courts. The weather for the weekend was mixed. Scorching hot day on Saturday and Sunday was very wet!
Day 1
Our first match was against Warwickshire. The playing conditions were hot with little breeze. Warwickshire again had good depth to their team and overall experience. Gabriel pulled off an excellent win against their number 1 in two sets, but we lost all other matches.
Our second match was against Lincolnshire. After the singles we were 2-1 up after Jacob and Aidan won in straight sets playing some excellent tennis. Gabriel and Jacob paired up in the doubles to take on Harvey Booth and Matthew Gedney. The boys lost in straight sets taking us to a shootout to decide the tie. The Notts boys showed true fighting spirit and managed to close out the match tiebreak 11-9!
As the weather was so good and the forecast for Sunday was wet, the referee decided to play all of the singles matches against Leicestershire. Leicester had a strong team out this year. Both Aidan and Jacob lost in singles, but Gabriel managed to keep us in the tie with coming back from a set down to pinch the 3rd set on a match tiebreak 10-5 against Louis Marsden.
Day 2
After a wet start play eventually started and we had the doubles to play against Leicester. Unfortunately they proved to be too strong and beat us in straight sets to decide the tie. This win guaranteed them qualification to the finals.
Our last match was against Northamptonshire. We started strong and won all of the singles matches. Aidan had an excellent win at no3 in a 3rd set match tiebreak 10-3. Strong performances from Gabriel and Jacob too.
The Notts boys showed excellent team spirit over the weekend. We finished 3rd overall.
We had a great time over the weekend and it was great to see the boys in action.
A big thank you to all the parents that came to support and their commitment to the team. The days were longer than usual with the weather being wet on the Sunday. Well done to all of you.
