Despite the 8-0 score line this was a hard-fought match. Shelvey and Looker beating Avon’s first pair 7-5 7-5 and both second-round doubles matches going in favour of Notts. on third set tie-breaks.

Against: Scotland West
Venue: West Bridgford Tennis Club
Date: Fri 19/05/2017
Result: 6-2 Win
Team: Nick Shelvey – Ashley Looker – Bill Sissons - David Hilton
Notts. second pair, Sissons and Hilton performed particularly well in this match by beating the Scottish first pair in a third set tie-break; this secured the match for Notts.

Result: Lost 2-6
Team: Team: Nick Shelvey – Ashley Looker - Neil Lucas – David Hilton
Neil Lucas stepped in for this away match against a strong Lancashire team. Shelvey and Looker managed a third set tie-break win over their second pair and Hilton and Lucas came close but lost to their first pair 3-6 6-7

A solid team performance to beat Northumberland.
Match No.5
Against: Norfolk
Venue: Norwich

Result: Won on games 4-4
Team: Nick Shelvey – Ashley Looker – Bill Sissons - David Hilton
A very enjoyable trip to Norwich which resulted in the closest match of our season. 4-4 in rubbers 38-36 in games!
The Norfolk team proved dogged, highly competitive yet extremely sporting opponents.
Captain’s Comments: -
My thanks go to the “Men’s 70 squad” who all contributed to a very satisfactory season resulting in second place and an anticipated promotion to Division 1.
Special mention should be go to Bill Sissons and David Hilton who have formed a very solid and successful partnership. Of course, my thanks also to Ashley Looker and Neil Lucas who performed so well for the team.
