The 2019 inter-county season has proven one of success for the men’s 70’s team with only one loss from the five matches played, as a result we will be playing in Division one next season with the joy of singles matches to be look forward to!!
The matches started on Friday 10th May with a home match against Lancashire. This proved a close very 2-2 encounter with Notts. winning on games.
Warwickshire came to Nottingham on Friday 14th June and proved strong opponents winning 3-1.
A long drive to and from Glasgow to play West of Scotland on Tuesday 18th June proved to be tiring but very worthwhile. The 4-0 win made the return journey quite enjoyable!
On Wednesday 26th June we played the Somerset team at our home venue. Notts came out 3-1 winners, however three of the matches went to third set tiebreakers.
Finally, on Tuesday 3rd September we made another long journey to Carlisle to play Cumbria. The close fought match finished 3-1 in favour of Notts.
Our team for all matches was: – David Carter, Rex Burrows, Nick Shelvey, Ashley Looker (Lancashire match - second round sub. Chris Brandon-White)
All matches were played in a very sporting and friendly manner. David Carter and Rex Burrows performed particularly well for Notts. winning all but one of their matches. My thanks to them and also thanks to Ashley Looker who played on despite a painful back in the last match and to Chris Brandon-White who supported the team in our first match.
Finally, my thanks for the support of our other squad members, David Hilton, Neil Lucas and Les Hurst and the staff of West Bridgford Tennis Club for providing great hospitality to our guests.
