Welbeck Tennis Club held its Murraymania event on 14 July 2013. We held a tennis and BBQ event for all members, friends and family. I made contact with the local newspaper, the Worksop Guardian and provided a short editorial for the Sports Editor. We invited one of our local sports shops to attend too.
The day was very warm and sunny, and the courts and the clubhouse looked excellent in the sunshine.
We had a number of different members turn up and having checked with the individuals we decided it would be best to simply let players go on to the courts as and when they wanted. It was agreed it was too hot for the tournament we had planned. It was primarily doubles that was played, but I did see a few games of singles being played as well.
The raffle went well with Dave Millns and Sarah Hill organising this, and as there were a number of children around it ended up that when the adults tickets were drawn they didn't take a prize, instead letting another ticket be drawn until all the kiddies had won something.
The barbeque was also very good, and I think it went down well that we again chose to have the burgers and sausages from the Welbeck Farm Shop, as these are very good quality and effectively "homegrown" for the club!
Overall it was a great day for our small club.
